I don’t think there has ever been a group of people who were more disappointed than the eleven apostles who watched Jesus Christ die on a cross on Cavalry. These eleven men had been with him for three years.
They had staked their whole lives on Him. They had forsaken homes and jobs and families and invested their whole lives in his promises and plan and there they were, standing on that windswept hill outside Jerusalem, watching the man they loved and believed in… die a torturous, horribly violent death.
Can you imagine the prayers these disciples prayed? For hours. “God… please…don’t let him die!!”
But God did let him die.
The apostles only saw the here and now. Not the hereafter. If God had granted their prayers and Jesus had not died on the cross, they… and us, too… wouldn’t have had the eternal life made possible because Jesus died on a cross. They never would have understood it at the time… even though Jesus… several times before he died… had tried to explain it to them.
I wonder… can you relate to that kind of disappointment that comes from unanswered prayers? Maybe you’ve been praying for a rebellious child, asking God to mature them, make them responsible, shape them up. But no matter how much you pray, it seems they only become more rebellious.
Maybe you’re praying about a habit in your own life you need to change. But it doesn’t. Maybe you’re praying for a loved one’s health, a coworker’s alcoholism, financial problems and your prayers… are unanswered.
Or here’s one I just know has happened to you: You pray for just the right words to use to a friend who doesn’t know the Lord and you’re hoping to get them to church or to Bible Study or whatever but by the time you’re done talking with them it’s worse than before and they look at you like you’re nuts. That ever happened to you? Me, too.
Well, sometimes, things have to get worse before they get better so God’s ultimate purpose is achieved. See, we don’t know what’s best for us. We don’t know what God wants to do in this world. That means, like the apostles, we are going to be disappointed. But just like them, when that happens we can’t give up. We have to go directly to the Lord.
See, either one of two things happen when we encounter disappointment. 1) We can retreat or quit. Stop trying. Go home and feel sorry for ourselves. And never be what God wants us to be. Or… the second option, 2) We can trust that God knows better than we do and however he answers our prayers… yes, no or I’ll get back to you… is the right answer.
That’s how we are to respond.

Do you believe that prayer has the power to heal? More importantly do you want to believe in the power of prayer to heal? If you answered yes to either of the above questions you are already on your way to understanding the power of healing prayer. The first step to being healed by prayer or offering prayers that will help to heal a loved one is to believe in your prayer. This article will outline the definition of healing prayer, whether or not you can be healed by prayer and how to pray for healing.

What is Healing Prayer?

Healing prayer is prayer that is offered up for the purpose of seeking healing of either a physical or emotional nature. It is believe that through prayer physical and emotional pain can be eliminated. Healing prayer may include prayer spoken aloud, prayer held within the heart or visits to religious shrines or other places of worship.

Healing prayer does not involve monetary donations. Although offering contributions to houses of worship is certainly worthwhile there is no amount of money that can guarantee a cure to a physical or emotional pain. Some unscrupulous individuals may offer stories of healing and divine intervention and offer you the opportunity for healing for a fee. These individuals should be avoided. True healing prayer is pure and heartfelt.

Can You Be Healed By Prayer?

Although scientific evidence may not be overly supportive of healing prayer, Christians know the answer to this question. They know that prayer does have the power to heal when the prayer is offered with sincerity, humility and compassion. The form of healing that you or the recipient of your prayer receives may come in a variety of different levels. The healing may be a full curing of the medical or physical ailment or it may come in the form of easing the pain and bringing peace to the patient before they pass.

Healing prayer should be used in conjunction with standard medical treatments for the physical ailment. Undergoing medical treatments is not a lack of faith but rather a determination to be healed. For example it may be God’s plan that you are to be healed through a new form of treatment that could help many others who do not share your faith and spirituality.

How Do You Pray for Healing?

There is no simple formula for healing prayer. Although some would like to believe that there are special prayers that guarantee healing but, unfortunately, this is not the case. The words of a healing prayer pale in comparison to the emotion and passion behind the words. The simplest prayer can often be the most powerful because it invokes the most heartfelt emotion of the individual offering the prayer. Whether you are praying for your own healing, for the healing of a loved one or the healing of a stranger it is important that as you pray, you know in your heart that God has the power to heal and He will answer your prayer according to His plan. It has been said many times that no prayer goes unanswered but the answer to these prayers isn’t always, “Yes.”

‘amoureusement’ a clock strikes ten, an hour of strange significance for Alkan. It is said that when he heard the ten strokes he would habitually withdraw, even in mid-conversation.” “A domestically harmonized hymn-tune announces family prayers. The children join in; the hymn gains confidence. A brief, lingering reference to the opening song provides the cue for an even briefer exit by the children, and the movement ends with a feminine cadence quite impossible to play as Alkan has …

One of the things we all have in common is that sometime in our lives we all experience times, technology, terror, tears and truth. We experience what the times do to us – times of exultant joy, times of deep grief, times of unbelievable passion, times of unbearable loss, times of quiet calm, times of heartrending sadness, times of undying love and times no one can comprehend.
Technology has become pervasive in our lives. The need of technology to send an email to a friend, technology to answer a call waiting from an important client, technology to print a picture of a loved one, technology to climb the last mile on the treadmill hill, technology to play that special song on our IPod, technology to cook dinner in our microwave.
We face terror on international and in some cases personal levels. Terror that 9/11 may happen again , terror that a loved one will be called to military duty, terror that cancer may take a friend, terror that my child be lost, terror that my business fails.
We all experience tears far too often. Tears of deep physical pain, tears of depression, tears of loss of a friend, tears of a career failure, tears of want, tears of need.
We need to know the truth about our lives and how to go on. Where do we find such truth?
In prayer!
But, you say, I don’t know how to pray. It’s understandable. It’s not your fault. Very few people ever teach us how to pray or how to deepen our praying. Even the disciples said to Jesus, “Teach us to pray.” Jesus then described perfect prayer to the disciples when he said, “pray this way.” Base your prayer- life on the time-tested beliefs and practices of giving God our thanks, giving God our praise, and praying the prayer Jesus gave to all of us – the Lord’s Prayer.
Start by giving God your thanks for life-giving energy to face each new day, thanks for strength to meet the challenges of being a parent, thanks for a sunny day, thanks for the sound of a child’s laughter, thanks for a warm home, thanks for health.
Continue by giving God your praise by reaching out to someone in need of a kind word, praise by sharing your talents with your church family, praise by lending a helping hand to a neighbor, praise by spending time with your spouse.
Conclude by praying the prayer Jesus taught his disciples, “Our Father who art in Heaven, hallowed by Thy name, Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. Give us this day our daily bread. Forgive our trespasses and forgive those who trespass against us. Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For Thine is the kingdom, the power, the glory forever. Amen.”
Times, technology, terror, tears, and truth – thanks, praise and The Lord’s Prayer – start watching God move Heaven and earth with your eyes closed.

A simple conventional answer may be that we pray because our forefathers have been praying and told us to pray, this is exactly as we tell our children to pray. Traditionaly we pray because God has asked us to pray. But for many people who are sincerely searching for a more meaningful answer this may not be satisfactory. First of all God has given us freedom of choice for everything including prayers, so we do not have to pray if we do not want to. Usually we donot pray when we are enjoying the good times, but majority do this when some tragedy strikes or when we reach old age that many of us start praying regularly. For example an airplane full of people is going to crash and in this situation every one will be praying for life and survival. This instinct of self-survival is inherent in every living being including humans. But humans find themselves helpless and defenseless against many living beings and natural catastrophes. Therefore prmitive human prayed to various natural objects that threatened or benefited his survival. When human beings developed tools for self-defense and gradually advanced in science they tended to drift away from religion. They found security in science rather than prayer because science gave them control over the forces of nature. Priesthood considered this attitude as an attack on religion itself. This led to a continuous battle of religion with science. History bears ample testimony to this continuous struggle. Thus we see that there seems to be no single reason as to why people pray. Everyone can come up with his or her own answer and feel satisfied. In fact this is what we normally do. But as we mentioned before, the right answer that transcends space, time circumatance and human emotions can only come from God through his book..The Quran.

Why do we pray?
