Prayer to God
I used to recite holy books in the morning and after completing recitals, I used to stand up and placed before God a long prayer. First of all I praised God, then I thanked God for what He had given to me and them I placed my demands before Him. This had been my routine and since I had been reciting all this exercise in loud voice, all in the house had been listening whatever I had been reciting.
When my son reached thirteen and he was in eighth class, he appeared at seven in the morning and bowed his head before me and actually touched my feet. Then he stood up and withdrew some steps backward. He closed his eyes and stood straight before me with folded hands. He started speaking,
“My dear father you are great. Everybody in the town has got great respect for you. You are a learned person and I often read articles in news papers. I have seen two or three books written by you and those are lying in the local library. As and when I visited the library, I used to see those books and also noted the number of times those have been issued to the readers. If some friend of mine is with me, I tell him that these books have been written by my father, I also told that the books are so good that many readers have read these books.”
Then he stopped for a while and then again started,
“I am thankful to you that you gave birth to me and I could get a chance to live in this world. I am thankful to you that you along with my mother brought me up and kept me hale and hearty. You got me admitted in one of the best schools in the city. You are providing me with all the books, help books and items of stationery. You provide me very good diet and very good clothes to wear. You are giving me all facilities in life and I hope this will continue.”
“You have done much for me. But you know Papa that I am not good in the subject of English language. I need help. Since you have not arranged tuition for me, the teacher is commenting upon my weakness in this subject. It is therefore, requested that I may be provided with tuition in this subject so that I could do justice with this subject. You know that I had been getting first divisions throughout and, this time too, I want to get first division. I hope you would arrange tuition for me.”
Then the boy again bowed down and touched my feet and then without listening to me, he left the scene.
I told all this story to my wife, the mother of the boy and we both were very thankful to God that He had given us such an intelligent, respectful son.
Next day again at seven my son appeared and repeated same rehearsal. I told my parents and other relations. They all were very happy and were sorry to note that their own children could not realize all this.
When this rehearsal continued for about fifteen days, without any break, I and my wife were not very happy. We doubted something wrong with the boy. So I consulted some people and most of them advised up to take the boy to a Dera situated near our town. We actually took the boy to that Dera and we met the Sant. He listened to us and gave us something which he advised that we should administer this medicine to the boy in milk.
When we could not succeed, we consulted a doctor. He advised us to consult a doctor in the city hospital. We went there and a batch of doctors examined the boy and they advised his admission in the hospital for a month. We accepted their advice and the boy remained there for treatment for a month. We faced difficulties, but since we had got the only son with us, we had to bear all these difficulties. After a month the boy was given discharge from the hospital and we brought him back. He was feeling better.
But next morning right at seven he again appeared before me and started the same rehearsal which he had been carrying on prior to his admission in the city hospital.
I talked to my wife. She was not in a position to give me proper advice. She advised me that I should consult my parents. But before I could have further consultations, I absented myself next morning at seven. The boy might have traced me, but since I was out of the house, he could not conduct the same rehearsal on that day. Next morning too I absented myself and left the house at that particular time. And I must declare that I am never present in the house at seven.
Now I have crossed sixty. My son is married and had got two children. Now I realized that I had to run from my son only because that he had been repeating the same rehearsal daily. The Almighty God is not listening to our prayers. He too might have become tired of listening the same prayers daily. It is very difficult to hear the same prayer daily. When God had to run away from the sight of this man, similar had been my position and I had to run away from the sight of my son. I have started praying before God in a different way. Now I offer my prayer only once for the fulfillment of my demand and I never recall that prayer once again. I have realized that God is not in the habit of forgetfulness and therefore, we should offer our prayer only once. We must believe that He had listened to us. That is all.
