I don’t think there has ever been a group of people who were more disappointed than the eleven apostles who watched Jesus Christ die on a cross on Cavalry. These eleven men had been with him for three years.
They had staked their whole lives on Him. They had forsaken homes and jobs and families and invested their whole lives in his promises and plan and there they were, standing on that windswept hill outside Jerusalem, watching the man they loved and believed in… die a torturous, horribly violent death.
Can you imagine the prayers these disciples prayed? For hours. “God… please…don’t let him die!!”
But God did let him die.
The apostles only saw the here and now. Not the hereafter. If God had granted their prayers and Jesus had not died on the cross, they… and us, too… wouldn’t have had the eternal life made possible because Jesus died on a cross. They never would have understood it at the time… even though Jesus… several times before he died… had tried to explain it to them.
I wonder… can you relate to that kind of disappointment that comes from unanswered prayers? Maybe you’ve been praying for a rebellious child, asking God to mature them, make them responsible, shape them up. But no matter how much you pray, it seems they only become more rebellious.
Maybe you’re praying about a habit in your own life you need to change. But it doesn’t. Maybe you’re praying for a loved one’s health, a coworker’s alcoholism, financial problems and your prayers… are unanswered.
Or here’s one I just know has happened to you: You pray for just the right words to use to a friend who doesn’t know the Lord and you’re hoping to get them to church or to Bible Study or whatever but by the time you’re done talking with them it’s worse than before and they look at you like you’re nuts. That ever happened to you? Me, too.
Well, sometimes, things have to get worse before they get better so God’s ultimate purpose is achieved. See, we don’t know what’s best for us. We don’t know what God wants to do in this world. That means, like the apostles, we are going to be disappointed. But just like them, when that happens we can’t give up. We have to go directly to the Lord.
See, either one of two things happen when we encounter disappointment. 1) We can retreat or quit. Stop trying. Go home and feel sorry for ourselves. And never be what God wants us to be. Or… the second option, 2) We can trust that God knows better than we do and however he answers our prayers… yes, no or I’ll get back to you… is the right answer.
That’s how we are to respond.

A simple conventional answer may be that we pray because our forefathers have been praying and told us to pray, this is exactly as we tell our children to pray. Traditionaly we pray because God has asked us to pray. But for many people who are sincerely searching for a more meaningful answer this may not be satisfactory. First of all God has given us freedom of choice for everything including prayers, so we do not have to pray if we do not want to. Usually we donot pray when we are enjoying the good times, but majority do this when some tragedy strikes or when we reach old age that many of us start praying regularly. For example an airplane full of people is going to crash and in this situation every one will be praying for life and survival. This instinct of self-survival is inherent in every living being including humans. But humans find themselves helpless and defenseless against many living beings and natural catastrophes. Therefore prmitive human prayed to various natural objects that threatened or benefited his survival. When human beings developed tools for self-defense and gradually advanced in science they tended to drift away from religion. They found security in science rather than prayer because science gave them control over the forces of nature. Priesthood considered this attitude as an attack on religion itself. This led to a continuous battle of religion with science. History bears ample testimony to this continuous struggle. Thus we see that there seems to be no single reason as to why people pray. Everyone can come up with his or her own answer and feel satisfied. In fact this is what we normally do. But as we mentioned before, the right answer that transcends space, time circumatance and human emotions can only come from God through his book..The Quran.

Why do we pray?

Hope, at best is a fragile thing, but as years pass with no evidence that hope is being fulfilled, it slowly disappears. But as long as there is life, there is hope!
When the call came, it was more than a surprise; more like the heavens had opened and a voice from the dead was speaking; a voice I had never heard before. She was just a baby when I last saw her almost 40 years ago. There was a time during the latter years when I actually convinced myself that she was dead. Now after decades of wondering what had happened to her, my daughter was talking to me.
Her mother and I had been blessed with her when we both were merely kids ourselves, without the good sense to know that life is not always the fairy tale we dreamed it would be. That dream came to an end just a few short years later when my wife and I went our separate ways. They moved to another state a short time later and started a new life as a new family, with a new name and with a new husband and father. That was the last time I saw my daughter until she called that night a few years ago.
“You’re the answer to a thousand prayers!” I exclaimed after I composed myself enough to speak. One month earlier I had reconciled myself to the fact that she was gone forever and that it was time to put the issue to rest. I had one picture of her when she was eleven months old, my constant reminder of the child I had lost. That day, I slipped it into an envelope and stuffed it into the trash can.
Television today generally depicts the father as being a dunce without any noticeable intelligence and with little feelings for anything but himself. In real life it doesn’t always work that way. At least it didn’t for me. Many times I had wished that it did.
The first twenty years were the roughest. Every time my children from a later marriage would reach some milestone in their lives; little league, girl scouts, band, etc., I would wonder how my other daughter was faring in the same situations. Certainly I was proud of my kids for their achievements I, but a little sad at the same time.
There’s no good excuse for allowing someone else to adopt your child when you’re capable of rearing that child yourself. In later years I tried to convince myself that I was young and scared, more boy than man at that time. I remember the brow beating and sage advice from people I thought at the time were friends. Finally it seemed that I would be making some noble and mature gesture by agreeing to the adoption. As I see it now, it wasn’t noble or mature; just cowardly.
Time does not heal all wounds without help from the wounded. While it marches on, the pain of loss always seems to be bringing up the rear. After the initial shock of a divorce and the remarriage of her mother a short time later, I found that I still had a life to live. Years swiftly passed with my new family taking up most of my time and thoughts, but still in idle moments, there would be the vision of my daughter and what she might look like at that moment.
Her mother had told me those many years ago that they were moving to Texas. Not knowing exactly where they moved, whenever I visited that state on business, I would look in the telephone books and hope to find some sign of their presence. That never happened. I’m not sure what I would have done if I had found them.
Finally after I had finally given up any thoughts of finding her, she found me! She was told about me in her teens. Twenty years later, she became determined to find me. Her grandmother gave her enough information about my family and where I lived to give her search a chance to succeed. But still, it took her five years to get up the courage to dial the number she had found. She wasn’t sure how she would be received. Thankfully, she had enough guts to put aside her fears and call.
After that evening’s call, I’ve spent the last seven years running up tremendous telephone bills. I think we talked almost every night for the next six months, getting to know each other again! I have two beautiful grand daughters I didn’t know I had. I’m sure both of them will grow up to be Miss Texas someday.
My daughter and I have a relationship that is stronger than I could ever have imagined. Maybe it’s because we’re both mature now and we both know what we’ve missed not knowing each other. She thinks I’m a pretty cool guy. She gets her intelligence and good looks from my side of the family!
I have to believe that God had a hand in getting us together again. I don’t know why she appeared shortly after I gave up and tried to push her from my mind. Maybe it’s his way of showing us to never give up on anything important. Knowing her and seeing the bright, determined woman she has become, lets me know that God was keeping an eye out for both of us all the time.
I know my daughter well enough now to know that there’s no quit in her. Maybe that’s the way it should be for us all!

Why Your Prayers Were Not Answered?

The bible did say that asked and you shall be given, seek and you shall find, knock and the door shall be opened unto you. If this is a statement then why does it not work every time we prayed for something? Surely God can not lie. Then why is this not true? This leads us to find the various reasons why God do not answer our prayers.

There are several reasons why God do not answer our prayer requests:

Here are the scriptures that support the above facts:

John 14:15,

“15″If you love me, you will obey what I command.”

Psalm 91: 14-17,

“14 “Because he loves me,” says the LORD, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.  15 He will call upon me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him. 16 With long life will I satisfy him and show him my salvation.”"

John 9:31,

“31We know that God does not listen to sinners. He listens to the godly man who does his will.”

Isaiah 59:12,

“For our offenses are many in your sight, and our sins testify against us. Our offenses are ever with us, and we acknowledge our iniquities:”

Isaiah 59:2,

“But your iniquities have separated you from your God; your sins have hidden his face from you, so that he will not hear.”

Ezekiel 14: 3- 5,

“3 “Son of man, these men have set up idols in their hearts and put wicked stumbling blocks before their faces. Should I let them inquire of me at all? 4 Therefore speak to them and tell them, ‘This is what the Sovereign LORD says: When any Israelite sets up idols in his heart and puts a wicked stumbling block before his face and then goes to a prophet, I the LORD will answer him myself in keeping with his great idolatry. 5 I will do this to recapture the hearts of the people of Israel, who have all deserted me for their idols.’”

Psalm 101:6-7,

“6My eyes will be on the faithful in the land that they may dwell with me; he whose walk is blameless will minister to me. 7 No one who practices deceit will dwell in my house; no one who speaks falsely will stand in my presence.”

Psalm 109:17,

“17 He loved to pronounce a curse— may it come on him; he found no pleasure in blessing— may it be far from him.”

Ephesians 4:29,

“ 29Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.”

Exodus 33:17,

“ 17 And the LORD said to Moses, “I will do the very thing you have asked, because I am pleased with you and I know you by name.”"

Ephesians 5:3-4,

“3But among you there must not be even a hint of sexual immorality, or of any kind of impurity, or of greed, because these are improper for God’s holy people.4Nor should there be obscenity, foolish talk or coarse joking, which are out of place, but rather thanksgiving”

1 Samuel 15:23,

“For rebellion is like the sin of divination, and arrogance like the evil of idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the LORD, he has rejected you as king.”"

John 15:7-8,

“7If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be given you. 8This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples.”

James 4:1,

“1What causes fights and quarrels among you? Don’t they come from your desires that battle within you? 2You want something but don’t get it. You kill and covet, but you cannot have what you want. You quarrel and fight. You do not have, because you do not ask God. 3When you ask, you do not receive, because you ask with wrong motives, that you may spend what you get on your pleasures.”

The entire reason of coming to Christ and receiving our salvation is so we can be at peace with God. Being at peace means we have to agree to live by his commandments and statutes, since God instituted them for our own good. Only by living that life can we be pleasing to God. He gave us certain ways to live with each other as he originally intended creation to live by.

So did Jesus who died on the cross remove all these things which God said we are to do?

I don’t think so he came to fulfill it. So that now we who call upon him will have this overcoming life, the gift of the Holy Spirit to help us when we fall short. When the Holy Spirit is upon you and lives in you, you will begin to change. God will give you a new spirit and a new heart, and you will become a different person. You will be transformed day by day into the image of a son of God.

“13And you also were included in Christ when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation. Having believed, you were marked in him with a seal, the promised Holy Spirit,”

Ezekiel 11:19, “I will give them an undivided heart and put a new spirit in them; I will remove from them their heart of stone and give them a heart of flesh.”

Ezekiel 36:26, “I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.”

Psalm 51:10, “Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me.”

When you get baptized in water, there will be no immediate change not a single power exists. That’s the truth, although with Jesus he was immediately given the Holy Spirit, but for a normal person this is not true. Some people take days to get the baptism of the Holy Spirit, and some take years while others that don’t bear fruit falls away. As a proof of this comment made, let’s refer to the book of Acts,

Acts 2:38, “Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.”

Acts 19:1-3,

“1While Apollos was at Corinth, Paul took the road through the interior and arrived at Ephesus. There he found some disciples 2and asked them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?”
They answered, “No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.”

3So Paul asked, “Then what baptism did you receive?”
“John’s baptism,” they replied.

4Paul said, “John’s baptism was a baptism of repentance. He told the people to believe in the one coming after him, that is, in Jesus.” 5On hearing this, they were baptized into the name of the Lord Jesus. 6When Paul placed his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke in tongues and prophesied. 7There were about twelve men in all.”

John’s baptism was a baptism of repentance. Only Jesus is the baptizer of the Holy Spirit and Paul is the one who can command such blessings. When you get baptized in water as in John’s baptism, there still remains the most important baptism which is baptism in the Holy Spirit and that Jesus is the one who baptized with fire and also his approved apostle can do this.

When we say you are born again, it means you are baptized in the Holy Spirit by Jesus himself. So when you come to God make sure you came in by the front door and not the window for many will make you think you have the Holy Spirit and that is not true. The baptism of the Holy Spirit is a real tangible event and you will know that you know it’s a real baptism. Some will feel a warm sensation, others will feel a rush of energy and some feel joy, and some feel a release from bondage whatever that is it’s real. Its can not be counterfeited nor said unto you that you have it, it will manifest itself to you by Jesus himself not man. One of the signs is speaking in tongues, but not all tongues are real. Also speaking in tongues is not the only sign, but there are other signs as well.

Don’t assume that everyone is baptized in the Holy Spirit, if this was true, why are there still so much disagreement in the Christian faith? How can the Holy Spirit contradict itself, its impossible, so there are many false Christians masquerading as Christians, we call them wolves in sheep skin. So get the first thing first and worry later about why God has not answered your prayers. If you are not one of his sheep, how is he to answer your prayers since you are none of his. Do you expect other people’s father to take care of you when you are not their children? Surely not.

Even if we can not accept that speaking in tongues is one of the sign of having the Holy Spirit, we can choose another sign. Jesus said, “My Sheep Hear My Voice” if you can not hear the voice of God, then you may not be his sheep, even if you claim you are a Christian. That does not mean a thing, its Jesus who must receive you as his people or sheep. Jesus is the one who will decide whether you are his sheep or not and no one else can do that.

John 8:47,

“47He who belongs to God hears what God says. The reason you do not hear is that you do not belong to God.”"

John 10:1-5, 7,

“1″I tell you the truth, the man who does not enter the sheep pen by the gate, but climbs in by some other way, is a thief and a robber. 2The man who enters by the gate is the shepherd of his sheep. 3The watchman opens the gate for him, and the sheep listen to his voice. He calls his own sheep by name and leads them out. 4When he has brought out all his own, he goes on ahead of them, and his sheep follow him because they know his voice. 5But they will never follow a stranger; in fact, they will run away from him because they do not recognize a stranger’s voice.”

7Therefore Jesus said again, “I tell you the truth, I am the gate for the sheep.”

My sheep hears my voice, so if you can not hear the voice of God as in his still quiet voice not necessarily audible but with your spirit, then you are none of his. These are sober words and time is short, so please ensure you are truly his sheep. For this issue, you have to find out between God and yourself, don’t let anyone tell you what they think, God is capable of answering this question for you directly. So, make doubly sure you are one of his sheep and you should be able to hear his voice. Prayer for the citizens of the kingdom of God is neither an option, nor just a religious practice that is done to receive “brownie points” with God. Unlike the prayers of all other people, the righteous prayers of the citizens of God’s kingdom release the power of the Almighty God into the earth to transform earth into the likeness of heaven. So what exactly is the kingdom principle of prayer you ask? We need to pray according to the will of the Father. Jesus gave a profound example of this in response to the request of His disciples who wanted to be taught how to pray. To many people this reference to what most people call the Lord’s Prayer is nothing more than a model that Jesus left for His disciples to follow. However, few believers actually pray in this manner and therefore, they do not follow His example. Remember, Jesus was not an actor or a hypocrite. He taught His disciples by example and everything He taught His disciples how to do, He also did. So when He taught them how to pray, He was actually teaching them how He prayed. I believe the reason many believers neglect to pray like this is due to their lack of understanding of how to do that. For that reason, the Lord has given me an understanding of praying in that manner and shown me the power potential released thereby. Please, after reading this article, take some time to read and meditate on our Lord’s instructions for prayer found in Matthew 6:9-13 and Luke 11:2-4.

The first instruction regarding prayer which our Lord gave is that we must pray to the Father. Even though we are making our petitions to the King of kings we do not go before His presence merely as lowly servants who have to spend an hour in worship of the King before we are eligible to make a request. On the contrary, we can boldly come before the King’s throne of grace, obtain His favor, and make a request of Him as our Father. To be sure, there is a difference between how a prince approaches the king versus how a servant approaches. Now, please understand that I am not saying that we should not worship God because He is our Father, but Jesus did not command that we worship before we pray in His instructions to the disciples. Think about the relationship between a good father and a good son. When that child has been obedient, respectful, and thankful, that father will do whatever he can for him. In fact, it would be his delight to fulfill the requests of his son who honors him. The nature of a good father is to protect, lead, and provide for his children. When we acknowledge God as our father, we are letting Him know that we understand that all good gifts come from Him; He is our provider; and we want to follow in His footsteps.

Secondly, after we acknowledge who we are talking to, the first thing we are to request of the Father is that His name be hallowed (Ezekiel 36:22-23). This is not a point in prayer in which we simply worship, that is not what Jesus meant. To hollow something, means to make it feared, reverenced or glorified. And since it is a request that we are making of the Father, it means we are asking the Father to make His name hallowed. In other words, we are requesting that the Father would do something in our lives, and our world to make His name feared and reverenced and glorified. To be sure, since Jesus was not a hypocrite, we know that everyday He prayed in this manner, He to would ask the Father to do something to cause His name to be hallowed. As a result, the likely scenario would be that immediately after prayer He would go into the market place or in town and look to see what the Father wanted do to make His name feared and glorified; then He would do that very thing. That is what Jesus meant when He said I only do what I see the Father do and the Father shows me all He does (John 19-20). Daily, Jesus would see the Father healing someone or casting out a devil and as He did what He saw the Father doing, the people would respond by reverencing and glorifying the name of the Father.

As a son or daughter of God, Jesus wants you to follow His example. Everyday the Father wants you to ask Him to do something to cause people to worship and fear Him so that He can show you what He is doing and you can do likewise. Your life will change significantly when you realize that everyday the Father wants His name to be glorified through you. Within the kingdom of God, there is nothing that we can request of the Father that is more powerful than asking the Father to make His name hallowed or glorified in your life.

Would anyone look at a person, who is supposed to be a citizen of God’s kingdom, dealing with sickness, stress, sorrow, or lack and think “Wow! What a great and awesome God and king they have.” You should pray that the things that happen in your life will glorify the Father, cause people to see that He is great- and to be feared, and desire Him and His kingdom as a result. For example, if sickness tries to attach itself to your body, ask the Father to be glorified in your body. If money seems to be a problem, ask the Father to be glorified in your life and finances. If your marriage is under attack, as God to be glorified in your family and specifically your relationship with your spouse. And when the devil brings an attack against you, pray that God arise (be lifted up), His enemies be scattered and that He be glorified in your life. Throughout the earth’s history, every man or woman that has been used mightily by God has had this in common: they wanted God’s name to be glorified, especially in their lives. If you would also make that your number one prayer request, God will cause your life to shine like the sun in its strength. The records of Jesus’ prayers constitute a priceless document of one perfect being expressing himself to another.
Though Jesus must have been involved in prayer all the time, all we have in the Bible is six prayers of Jesus.
There are three kinds of prayers, and we know for sure that the mortal Jesus was involved personally in two of them. The three types of prayers were:
a. Personal prayers, offered by an individual in seclusion.
b. Public prayers, where one person acts as the voice of the group.
c. Set prayers, offered up only in connection with sacred ordinances, such as the ordinances of the temple.
Jesus taught us how to pray in public, and we know that prayer as “the Lords Prayer”. “Lead us not into temptation”, “Give us today our daily bread”, etc, are givaways that it is a public prayer.
There is not one single mention of first person in singular, showing that it is, in deed, a public prayer.
But we will not look at the public prayers of Jesus in this article. We shall look at the two privately uttered prayers that we have in writing.
We do have a couple of private prayers that was uttered in public, but we must consider them as teachings of the crowds, and testaments to the history of man, as much as personal prayers.
The two genuinely personal prayers that we have access to are his intercessory prayer, offered shortly before he entered into the Garden of Gethsemane and his heart-rending plea to his Father that the cup, if possible, would pass him by.
The intercessory prayer we appear to have in its fullness, but Jesus’ prayer in Gethsemane must be but a fragment of the entire prayer (remember that there was time enough for the disciples to fall asleep).
Why do we have one prayer from A-Z, and only a fragment of the other prayer? In order to answer that question there is one thing we must realize.
Since Jesus was all alone when he offered up these two prayers, there was no-one present to record them for inclusion in our Scriptures. If no-one was present to record the prayers, how come we still have them today?
In order for us to have access to these two prayers of Jesus today, God must have revealed the content of them to someone who was worthy to view these holy moments, and who could be trusted to accurately record the occurrences.
No doubt, this trusted man was a prophet, seer and revelator. This prophet was obviously permitted to view and record the entire intercessory prayer of the Lord, and recorded it to our benefit.
The content of this prayer is doctrinally important, since it declares how the Father and the Son are one, and that every believer can become one in the exact same way.
There is no room for a dissection of the entire prayer in this article, but it can be found in John 17: 1-26.
Whether the prophet who was invited to view the personal prayers of the Master was permitted in his revelation to witness the entire suffering in the Garden of Gethsemane we know not, but it is clear that only a small portion of Jesus’ prayer was public domain;
“And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt”. (Mathew 26:39)
Perhaps the words of the suffering God were so poignant that we could not bare to hear them.
Perhaps such a moment is too sacred to be had among the children of men, who will not shun to make light of the most sacred of things.
Perhaps we should rejoice that the words of that pivotal moment never could become part of “The Life of Brian”.
